💡 Good to know
  • People live here — please keep your voice low.
  • Some lanes have restricted visiting hours for tourists. Follow the signs.
  • Walk from Anguk Station (Line 3) and continue to Insadong or Samcheong-dong.
📷 Photo tips
  • From the Gahoe-dong slopes, frame the hanok roofs with the city skyline beyond.
  • Mornings are quieter and better for photos.
  • Photograph the lanes, not front doors or the inside of homes.

Between Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung palaces, hundreds of traditional hanok houses line narrow, sloping streets. Joseon-era aristocrats once lived here, and from the top of the hill you can see curved tiled rooftops with downtown skyscrapers behind them.

Please be respectful

Bukchon is a living neighborhood, not a museum. Because of overtourism, some lanes now have restricted visiting hours for tourists.

  • Walk quietly and keep conversations low.
  • Do not look into or photograph gates, windows or homes.
  • Respect the posted visiting hours.

Nearby

Changdeokgung Palace, the cafes of Samcheong-dong, and the tea houses and craft shops of Insadong are all within walking distance.
