Noryangjin Fish Market, on the south side of the Han River, is Seoul’s best-known seafood market. Tanks overflow with fish, clams, crabs and things you may never have seen before — walking the aisles is a show in itself.
How it works
- On the main floor, pick the fish, shellfish or crab you want.
- The vendor slices it into sashimi (hoe) or cleans it for cooking.
- Take it upstairs to a restaurant, which serves it with side dishes and can turn the rest into a spicy fish stew (maeuntang), for a table fee.
Good to know
Seafood prices change with the season and the daily market, so look around before you buy. It’s near Noryangjin Station (Lines 1 and 9). Early risers can catch the wholesale auctions, the market at its most energetic.
