K-pop is one of Korea’s best-known cultural exports, and Seoul is its home. Even if you are not a fan, you will hear it everywhere — in cafes, shops and on the subway.
Ways to experience it
- Music shows — Korean TV stations broadcast weekly live music shows. Some let fans attend, usually through fan club applications, so check the rules well in advance.
- Dance classes — studios in Hongdae and Gangnam run beginner classes where you learn the choreography of a famous song in an hour or two.
- Album and fan goods shops — albums, photo cards and official merchandise are sold in shops around Myeongdong, Hongdae and major department stores.
K-Star Road
In Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, a street near several entertainment agencies is lined with bear statues decorated for different K-pop groups. It is near Apgujeong Rodeo Station on the Suin-Bundang Line.
