Seoraksan rises above Korea’s east coast, its highest peak Daecheongbong reaching 1,708 m. Sharp granite pinnacles and deep valleys make it many Koreans’ pick for the country’s most beautiful mountain, and every autumn the year’s first foliage news comes from here. Down below, the port town of Sokcho adds beaches and seafood to the trip.
Highlights
- Seorak-dong area — Sinheungsa Temple with its giant bronze Buddha, and a cable car up to Gwongeumseong for an easy view.
- Ulsanbawi — a massive rock formation; lots of stairs, but an unforgettable view from the top.
- Biseondae and Cheonbuldong Valley — a trail of clear pools and towering rock walls.
