💡 Good to know
  • The water is shallow and usually calm, but swim only in the lifeguarded season.
  • It connects to neighboring Geumneung Beach — walk between the two.
  • Western Jeju has beautiful sunsets, so a late-afternoon visit works well.
📷 Photo tips
  • Shoot at midday when the water color is at its best, with Biyangdo in the background.
  • Play with the contrast of black lava rocks and white sand.

Hyeopjae is a beach in Hallim on Jeju’s west coast. The white sand is mixed with crushed shells, and the shallow water glows in shades of jade and emerald. Just offshore sits the small island of Biyangdo, which makes almost every photo look like a painting.

How to enjoy it

  • Swimming — the water stays shallow for a long way, so it is popular with families.
  • Beach walk — follow the sand and rocks to neighboring Geumneung Beach.
  • Sunset — facing west, the sky here turns gold and red in the evening.

Good to know

Parking is tight and the beach gets busy in peak summer. On windy days the waves can pick up quickly, so follow the lifeguards’ instructions.
