Dongmun Market, in the old center of Jeju City, is the island’s oldest permanent market. Locals shop here for dinner, and visitors come to see all of Jeju’s specialties in one place.
What to see
- Gamgyul and hallabong — Jeju citrus; in winter the whole market glows orange.
- Okdom and galchi — tilefish and hairtail caught in Jeju’s waters.
- Omegi-tteok — a traditional Jeju rice cake made with foxtail millet and coated in red bean.
The night market
In the evening, stalls set up inside the market and cook Jeju ingredients like black pork and abalone on the spot, often with plenty of flames and theater. It’s only a short drive from Jeju Airport, so it’s perfect for your first or last night on the island.
