Bupyeong Kkangtong Market takes its name from the canned goods (kkangtong means tin can) that flowed out of U.S. military bases after the Korean War and were sold here. Today it’s one of Busan’s favorite food markets — and famous for its night market.
The night market
When evening comes, a line of stalls fills the market lane, selling not only Korean snacks but street food from many other countries. Grazing your way down the row is the whole point.
What to try
- Eomuk (fish cakes) — Busan is Korea’s fish cake capital, and you can get them freshly fried.
- Yubu-jumeoni — tofu pouches stuffed with glass noodles and vegetables, simmered in broth.
- Bibim-dangmyeon — glass noodles tossed with vegetables and a spicy seasoning.
It’s a short walk from Jagalchi Market and Gukje Market, so make an evening of the whole Nampo-dong area.
