Daraengi Village clings to a steep slope on the southern tip of Namhae Island, dropping straight down to the sea. “Daraengi” refers to small, narrow paddies cut into a hillside: with almost no flat land, villagers built stone walls to create terrace after terrace of rice fields.
What you’ll see
From above, curving terraces step down toward the water, ending in the deep blue of the South Sea. In spring the flooded paddies reflect the sky like mirrors; in summer they turn a deep, glowing green.
Good to know
This is a working farm village. Stay on the paths and off the field edges. Namhae is connected to the mainland by bridges, so it is reachable by car or intercity bus.
