Nami Island is a half-moon-shaped island in the Bukhangang River. You reach it by a short ferry ride from the Gapyeong side, and the whole island is laid out with tree-lined avenues and gardens. It became famous across Asia as a filming location for the K-drama “Winter Sonata”.
When to go
- Autumn — the ginkgo lane turns gold and the maples red.
- Winter — after snow, the metasequoia lane looks just like a scene from the drama.
- Spring and summer — fresh and deep green forest paths, perfect for a slow walk.
Good to know
You can rent bicycles and even stay overnight on the island. From Seoul, take the train to Gapyeong Station and then a short ride to the ferry dock.
