Suncheon Bay is a coastal wetland of wide tidal flats and vast reed beds. It is protected for its rich ecology, and the Boseong–Suncheon tidal flats are part of Getbol, Korean Tidal Flats, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. In winter, migratory birds such as hooded cranes arrive.
When to go
Autumn is the most beautiful season, when the reeds turn gold. Walk the boardwalk through the reeds, then climb to the Yongsan Observatory for the famous view of the S-shaped channel and round islands of reeds. At sunset the water reflects the red sky.
Nearby
The Suncheon Bay National Garden is close by and makes it easy to fill a whole day.
