For decades, Euljiro has been downtown Seoul’s working district — print shops, lighting stores, tile and tool dealers packed into narrow lanes. In recent years, bars, cafes and tiny galleries have slipped into the upper floors of the old buildings, earning it the nickname “Hipjiro” (hip + Euljiro).
What to do
- Walk the lanes by day — printing presses rattle and delivery carts squeeze past; this is still a real workplace.
- The beer alley (Nogari Golmok) — near Euljiro 3-ga Station, the street fills every evening with plastic tables, cold beer and nogari, small dried pollack grilled as a snack.
- Hunt for hidden spots — many places have tiny signs or none at all, which is half the fun.
Getting there
Euljiro 3-ga Station (Lines 2 and 3) is the center of it all. From here you can walk on to Cheonggyecheon Stream, Sewoon Plaza and Dongdaemun.
